Cedar Creek Cove Resort

Arkansas? Bull Shoals Lake? The Ozarks? Where are you taking me? Why would I want to go there? These questions have been asked many times by children over the years! But after a week here, most children don’t want to leave. They discover things few major theme parks have to offer.

Your family has worked hard and has waited a long time to take that vacation and everything must be considered. For parents one of the most important questions is “what are the kids going to do?” Let’s try to answer that for you.

The first thing to remember is to “go back to the basics!!”

What did you do to have fun when you we‘re a child? Remember the games you played around the “old neighborhood”? How about Dodge Ball, Spud, Mother May I, or Hide and seek!.

When you arrive at Cedar Creek Cove look around for other children. There will probably be other children similar in age to your own. Get to know their names, introduce them to your child, and have them share a toy together. The rest will be history because kids are naturally drawn to each other.

Kids are also drawn to the Ozarks unusual colored bugs, beetles, lizards, rocks & turtles!! (These critters are all perfectly harmless!). You would be amazed at how useful a magnifying glass and/or a butterfly net could be for a child taking a walk around a resort in Arkansas. An ordinary stick soon becomes a great marshmallow holder or a walking stick, a sword or a magic wand.

Remember, most children are in a new world here. Their imaginations are amazed over the littlest things. They will be introduced to things they have never seen. A rock might look like a star. (Or maybe a diamond!) There usually will be a special rock or stick that they must take with them to share with their friends back home. Help yourself. Once home you might want to date it and write where they got it. It makes a great souvenir for them.

Bring their fishing pole. Watch the excitement as they caught their first fish off the dock or shoreline. Get his or her picture taken and have it posted in our office for everyone to see. Make them proud.

Push them on a swing, let them slide down the slide or let them have a picnic lunch in our playground area.

Take lots of pictures. Children love to pose. They can then look back and tell everyone what a great time they had and what they discovered. Share a good picture with the resort so we can also display it for other children and for them to see it still displayed next year when you all return.

I know what you’re thinking; this is great for the little ones, but what about the teenagers?  Well, the resort  Game Room is a good starting place for them. They can play pool, ping-pong, watch TV, listen to their favorite CD’s or DVD’s, have a pop, a candy bar, an ice cream or just hang out. A place for them to get away and not bug Mom or Dad. Many a friendship has been formed in that room.

Most teens, whether shy or not will find friends easily here because there is no peer pressure. They are all on vacation in a strange place but they all somehow always share some common interests like music or sports. Each one has something “special” about them because their lives are so different.

Outside the Game Room there is the dock for fishing, sunbathing, or swimming. There are the many cliffs on the lake for diving and quiet coves for hanging out, boating, jet skiing or just drifting along on a raft.

There is also the basketball court, volleyball court, and horseshoe pits for some friendly competition. There is a practice archery area, so have them bring their bow or ask us about using one of ours.

If you decide to take a day away from the lake, take a tour of the Bull Shoals Dam, it's quite impressive to go down inside knowing there's water all around you.  Of course there's Branson, Silver Dollar City and Whitewater.

Bass Pro Shop in Springfield is also a great place for the entire family.

Finally, while you’re here in the Arkansas Ozarks, it is important to remember there are no schedules for you or your children, so RELAX & ENJOY the time you have. Sleep in if you want, enjoy sitting around a campfire with your children, show them the galaxy above, or read them a book. Do something you don’t normally do at home “DO NOTHING”!!!
